International Bovine Training Solutions is focused on a more personal learning environment structured around the needs of the trainee, both technicians and veterinarians.
Every person is different in how they learn and what they want to learn. IBTS is able to provide the training environment and expertise to meet whatever training is desired, whether that be simply pregnancy diagnosis (including staging of pregnancies with unknown breeding dates) or as advanced as ovarian dynamics, fetal sexing, and reproductive problems (dead fetuses, cysts, pyometras, etc..). By having access to such large numbers of cattle, there are many cows to train with and provide the desired learning conditions. The experience of IBTS instructors along with the high numbers of cows is the true power of the learning experience.
IBTS offers group classes on a monthly basis if demand is sufficient. Our classes are limited to no more than 10 people and consists of 2 days of hands-on training and lecture time. The total cost for this training is $750, and includes extensive training material that you can keep for future reference.
Class topics include:
–Ultrasound the Basics-to provide an introduction to ultrasound and give the trainee an opportunity to decide if learning ultrasound is something for them.
–Advanced Ultrasound Techniques– This class is best for people who already have experience using ultrasound. The class will focus on ovarian dynamics and also how to incorporate protocols BRS uses in their practice around reproductive management, especially to synchronization programs.
The Next Training Dates Will Be Scheduled Soon!
Some people may require or desire more of a one on one learning experience, and IBTS can accommodate these needs. Individual classes are offered daily throughout the year, and can be scheduled for one day ($1,000) or multiple days ($900 when 2 or more days are requested). The majority of training will be conducted on dairies associated with the veterinary practice BRS. Classroom training, incorporating power point and video instruction, will also be provided, and can be tailored to the needs of the trainee. Ultrasounds will be provided for use during the training experience.
IBTS will also travel and conduct training wherever desired. This rate is $1,000 per day plus traveling expenses.
Recommendations for Learning Ultrasound
The more familiar the trainee is with the bovine reproductive tract, the faster they will be at mastering the skills of ultrasonography. In Dr. McSweeney’s experience, technicians that know artificial insemination and how to find a cervix make the best candidates. However, IBTS has trained people with no experience inside the rectum of a cow, and it is not essential for learning ultrasound.
Learning ultrasound is like learning a video game and requires practice grasping the eye hand coordination needed to master it. The best learning process is usually in steps. IBTS recommends initial training to get to a certain level, then returning home and practicing, and then in the future returning for further advanced training (IBTS can also conduct this secondary training at the trainee’s location).
