Bovine Reproduction Specialists
Bovine Reproduction Specialists has built a new haul-in facility just east of Galeton, Colorado (15 minutes northeast of Greeley), to better serve cattle producers in and near Colorado with advanced reproductive technologies, such as ET and oocyte aspiration/IVF. There is also pen space for housing donors and recipients if desired.
Dr. McSweeney worked and trained under Dr George Seidel at Colorado State University (who developed the ET techniques we use today in the industry).
Bovine Reproduction Specialists is a unique veterinary practice focused solely on cattle reproduction and contracting all levels of reproductive management (reproductive ultrasound, heat detection, AI services, injections, list running, data entry, etc…) depending on the needs of the client. BRS incorporates both technicians and veterinarians into the practice and has been responsible for managing the reproduction on dairies and ranches ranging in size from 500 to 10,000 cows.
The practice incorporates protocols designed around ultrasound to dramatically improve reproductive rates. Because of these high rates most client dairies are able to utilize near 100 percent timed AI. This allows for greater time management, improving labor efficiency.
BRS has a portable hydraulic chute system and can set up on any ranch for pregnancy diagnosis or synchronizing cattle for AI.
Dr. McSweeney’s extensive research background and the level of data collected by BRS in the reproductive management of dairies make the practice a ideal environment for research. The practice has conducted numerous studies for both companies and universities over the past 10 years, including the first sexed semen breeding trial in lactating dairy cows for XY, inc (the company that developed sexed semen that we use today). This allows the practice to stay on the cutting edge of bovine reproduction, resulting in free services and products for clients along with new techniques/products to improve reproductive performance. This also provides the best learning environment for both trainees and employees.
